Your National ID card photo: what matters
The Guinea National ID card (Carte d'identite biometrique) is issued under the supervision of the national authorities, with biometric enrolment handled by the appointed operator Multi Media Glory Guinee. The card is valid for 5 years, and the photo on it must meet a tightly controlled biometric standard so that facial recognition, printing, and verification all work reliably. Here is the most important peculiarity to understand: for the Guinean biometric ID, your photo and biometrics are captured live at the enrolment centre. An operator takes the facial image (and fingerprints) digitally on the spot. Because of this, a downloaded or self-made photo is generally not the accepted route for submission — there is no official published photo file to upload yourself. Guinea has not separately published ID-card photo dimensions, so the working reference aligns with the national 35x50 mm standard used across the region. Knowing this in advance saves you a wasted trip and helps you arrive camera-ready.
The reference biometric specification is:
- Size: 35x50 mm (413x591 px at print resolution)
- Background: plain pure white (#FFFFFF), evenly lit, no shadows
- Face size: the head fills 66-76% of the frame height
- Expression: neutral, eyes open, mouth closed, looking straight at the camera
- Glasses: allowed only if the eyes are fully visible — no glare, no tint, no heavy frames
- Headwear: not permitted, except worn daily for religious reasons (face fully visible)
- Recency: reflect your current appearance, taken within the last 6 months
- Common reasons photos are rejected in Guinea:
- Arriving expecting to submit a self-printed photo instead of completing the mandatory on-site digital capture
- Off-white, grey or cream backgrounds, or shadows cast behind the head, instead of clean #FFFFFF
- Smiling or an open mouth — the standard requires a strictly neutral expression
- Tinted lenses or reflections hiding the eyes, or a head turned away from the camera
