A document photo is a headache of its own
A Nepal Passport photo has strict requirements, and a mistake costs time and money. We’ll show you how to pass on the first try.
It gets rejected
Wrong size, background or cropping — and the system returns the application.
Expensive and slow
A trip to a photo studio means a queue, time and €7–12 for a reshoot.
Confusing requirements
Exact size, head height, light background, facial expression — easy to get wrong.
Redo it all over
Rejected — take another photo, pay and submit again. Round and round.

Your Passport photo: what matters
A Nepal passport photo must meet the precise standard set by the Department of Passports (DoP) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and echoed by Nepali embassies worldwide. The required format is a 35x45 mm colour photograph on a plain white background, with a neutral expression and the face filling roughly 80% of the frame. Get this right and your Machine Readable Passport (MRP) or e-passport application moves forward without delay.
Nepal has one important peculiarity that catches many applicants out. For the e-passport, an adult's photo is captured live during biometric enrolment at the issuing office, so you do not always print one. However, printed 35x45 mm photos remain mandatory for children under 5 (whose biometrics are not captured live) and for all MRP applications, especially those filed through embassies abroad. Most offices ask for 4 identical copies, taken within the last 6 months, printed at 600-1200 DPI on quality photo paper.
- Size: 35x45 mm (827x1063 px)
- Background: plain white (#FFFFFF), no shadows or texture
- Face height: fills 70-80% of the frame
- Expression: neutral, mouth closed, eyes open
- Glasses: not allowed
- Headwear: none, except religious head covering that does not obscure the face
- Recency: taken within the last 6 months
- Common reasons photos are rejected in Nepal:
- Off-white, grey or cream backgrounds instead of pure white, the single most frequent cause
- Wearing glasses, which Nepal no longer permits in passport photos
- Face too small in the frame, falling short of the ~80% fill the DoP expects
- Low-resolution prints below 600 DPI, or photos older than 6 months
You do not need a studio. Upload an ordinary photo and it is automatically prepared to the exact Department of Passports standard — cropped to 35x45 mm, set on a clean white background, and sized so your face fills the correct portion of the frame. You see a free watermarked preview before paying anything, so you can confirm it looks right first. Every order carries an acceptance guarantee: if your photo is ever rejected, we redo it free or refund you. Upload, check the preview, and pay only for the final file once you are happy.
How we make your Passport photo meet the official standard — Nepal, 35 × 45 mm
Every photo is prepared against the official requirements for your document — not a generic template. Here is what that means in practice:
- 1We crop and size your photo to the exact millimetre and pixel dimensions the authority requires.
- 2We check the background, head position, gaze and lighting, and flag glasses or head coverings that are not allowed.
- 3We match the rules to the specific document and country, citing the official source of those requirements.
- 4If anything does not meet the standard, you get a free re-do or your money back.

A digital photo is normal, and it gets accepted — Nepal, 35 × 45 mm
You do not need a trip to a studio. Authorities accept any Passport photo that meets the official requirements — what matters is the standard, not where the photo was made. We match that standard exactly.
The standard is what counts
Officials check your photo against the rules — size, background, head position and lighting — not where you took it.
Part of official processes
Many passport, visa and ID services let you upload a digital photo or submit a print — both are fine when they meet the spec.
Same result as a studio
We prepare your file to the exact official measurements, so it is accepted just like a professional studio photo.
And you are covered
If a photo is ever rejected for not meeting the requirements, we redo it for free or refund you.
