A Belarus passport photo only works when it matches the technical requirements set by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD), updated in September 2024. Submitting at a passport office, embassy, or consulate is fast when the image is built to that standard from the start. The Belarusian standard has an unusual detail most people miss: the official print template (trafaret) is 40x50 mm, but the actual cut image inside it is 35x45 mm. Within that cut, your face length from chin to crown must measure 32-35 mm, with a free top margin of 2-3 mm above the head. Get those millimetres wrong and the photo is rejected even if it looks fine to the eye. The background must be a plain light tone — white or light-grey — with no shadows falling behind the head or on the face.

- Glasses: clear prescription glasses allowed only if eyes are fully visible — no glare, no tint; sunglasses forbidden.
- Headwear: not allowed (religious headwear tolerated if the full face is visible).
- Recency: taken within the last 6 months and matching your current appearance.
- Common reasons photos are rejected in Belarus:
- Wrong proportions — face shorter than 32 mm or taller than 35 mm, or no free margin above the head.
- A grey, cream, or coloured background, or a visible shadow behind the head.
- Glare or tint on prescription glasses hiding part of the eyes.
- A slight smile, tilted head, or turned face instead of a neutral full-face pose.
