Chad Passport Photo — Official ANATS Requirements & Compliant Reference Image
Everything you need to know about Chad biometric passport photo requirements: exact ANATS specifications, square 50×50 mm format, white background, and how to prepare before your enrollment appointment.
This photo must be taken by an accredited service
For this document, Chad does not accept a self-prepared photo. By law it must be captured on site by an authorised service and submitted electronically, so we cannot produce a submittable file for it. The official specification is shown below so you know exactly what to expect at your appointment.
This photo is captured on site — but we can make your Chad photos online:
A document photo is a headache of its own
A Chad Passport photo has strict requirements, and a mistake costs time and money. We’ll show you how to pass on the first try.
It gets rejected
Wrong size, background or cropping — and the system returns the application.
Expensive and slow
A trip to a photo studio means a queue, time and €7–12 for a reshoot.
Confusing requirements
Exact size, head height, light background, facial expression — easy to get wrong.
Redo it all over
Rejected — take another photo, pay and submit again. Round and round.

Your Passport photo: what matters
Chad's biometric passport is issued by ANATS (Agence Nationale des Titres Sécurisés), the national secure-documents authority established in 2016. To receive a compliant document, your photo must meet the precise specifications mandated by ANATS — a 50×50 mm square format, pure white background, and neutral expression aligned with the international biometric standard adopted at Chad's founding of ANATS.
What sets the Chad passport process apart is that biometric data — including the official photograph — is captured live at ANATS enrollment centres by trained operators using calibrated biometric equipment. The photo is not submitted separately by the applicant; it is taken on-site during your appointment. Knowing the exact standard in advance, however, means you arrive fully prepared: correct attire, proper expression, and no surprises on the day. A reference-compliant image prepared beforehand also remains directly useful for Chad visa applications, residency documents, and any other official form that does accept photographs submitted by the applicant.
Official ANATS photo requirements:
- Size: 50×50 mm (591×591 px) — square format
- Background: plain white (#FFFFFF), no patterns, gradients or shadows
- Face coverage: head occupies 65–78% of the frame height
- Expression: neutral, mouth closed, eyes open and looking directly at the camera
- Glasses: not permitted; an exception requires documented medical justification presented at the centre
- Headwear: not permitted except for confirmed religious reasons — the face must remain fully visible
- Lighting: even and shadow-free on both face and background
- Recency: taken within the last six months
Common reasons photos are rejected in Chad:
- Off-white or coloured background — ANATS mandates pure white (#FFFFFF); cream, beige or grey tones are not accepted, even when the deviation appears subtle
- Glasses without medical documentation — even lightweight or rimless frames are grounds for refusal at the enrollment centre under current ANATS rules
- Head tilted or off-centre — biometric scanning requires a strictly frontal, upright posture; any rotation or tilt triggers a mismatch during automated capture
- Non-neutral expression — a slight smile, raised eyebrows or parted lips can cause calibration errors during biometric image processing
