This photo must be taken by an accredited service

For this document, Chad does not accept a self-prepared photo. By law it must be captured on site by an authorised service and submitted electronically, so we cannot produce a submittable file for it. The official specification is shown below so you know exactly what to expect at your appointment.

It gets rejected

Wrong size, background or cropping — and the system returns the application.

Expensive and slow

In detail

Your Passport photo: what matters

Chad's biometric passport is issued by ANATS (Agence Nationale des Titres Sécurisés), the national secure-documents authority established in 2016. To receive a compliant document, your photo must meet the precise specifications mandated by ANATS — a 50×50 mm square format, pure white background, and neutral expression aligned with the international biometric standard adopted at Chad's founding of ANATS.

What sets the Chad passport process apart is that biometric data — including the official photograph — is captured live at ANATS enrollment centres by trained operators using calibrated biometric equipment. The photo is not submitted separately by the applicant; it is taken on-site during your appointment. Knowing the exact standard in advance, however, means you arrive fully prepared: correct attire, proper expression, and no surprises on the day. A reference-compliant image prepared beforehand also remains directly useful for Chad visa applications, residency documents, and any other official form that does accept photographs submitted by the applicant.

Official ANATS photo requirements:

  • Size: 50×50 mm (591×591 px) — square format
  • Background: plain white (#FFFFFF), no patterns, gradients or shadows
  • Face coverage: head occupies 65–78% of the frame height
  • Expression: neutral, mouth closed, eyes open and looking directly at the camera
  • Glasses: not permitted; an exception requires documented medical justification presented at the centre
  • Headwear: not permitted except for confirmed religious reasons — the face must remain fully visible
  • Lighting: even and shadow-free on both face and background
  • Recency: taken within the last six months

Common reasons photos are rejected in Chad:

  • Off-white or coloured background — ANATS mandates pure white (#FFFFFF); cream, beige or grey tones are not accepted, even when the deviation appears subtle
  • Glasses without medical documentation — even lightweight or rimless frames are grounds for refusal at the enrollment centre under current ANATS rules
  • Head tilted or off-centre — biometric scanning requires a strictly frontal, upright posture; any rotation or tilt triggers a mismatch during automated capture
  • Non-neutral expression — a slight smile, raised eyebrows or parted lips can cause calibration errors during biometric image processing

Use this service to generate a perfectly sized, white-background, biometrically proportioned reference photo from your own picture — automatically cropped to the exact 50×50 mm ANATS specification. Preview your result free with a watermark before downloading the full-resolution file. Whether you want to confirm your appearance meets the standard before visiting an ANATS centre, or need a ready compliant image for a Chad visa or another document that accepts submitted photos, a properly prepared reference gets you to your appointment confident and fully prepared.

Common questions about Chad Passport photos

What are the exact size requirements for a Chad passport photo?
The Chad biometric passport requires a square photo measuring 50×50 mm (591×591 pixels at 300 dpi), as specified by ANATS. This square format mirrors the US-style biometric standard and has been in place since ANATS was established in 2016.
How is the photo taken for a Chad biometric passport?
For the Chad biometric passport, your photograph is captured on-site at an ANATS enrollment centre by a trained operator — it is not submitted in advance by the applicant. Preparing a standard-compliant reference image beforehand lets you arrive knowing exactly what to expect: correct attire, proper expression, and no last-minute adjustments at the centre.
Are glasses allowed in a Chad passport photo?
Glasses are not permitted under ANATS rules. The only exception is documented medical necessity — you must present supporting paperwork at the enrollment centre. Even thin or rimless frames are subject to this restriction, with no casual exceptions.
What background colour is required for a Chad passport photo?
ANATS requires a pure white background (#FFFFFF). Off-white, cream, beige or grey shades — even subtle deviations — are not accepted. There is no alternative permitted background colour for the Chad biometric passport.
Is headwear allowed in a Chad passport photo?
Headwear is only permitted for confirmed religious reasons and must not obscure any part of the face, hairline or facial contours. Decorative, fashion or seasonal headwear is not allowed under any circumstances.
Can I prepare a reference photo before visiting an ANATS centre?
Yes, and it is highly recommended. Generating a standard-compliant reference image lets you verify your appearance — expression, attire and framing — against the ANATS specification before your appointment. The same image can also be used directly for Chad visa applications and other official documents that accept photographs submitted by the applicant.
