Bangladesh Passport Photo: The Exact 45x55 mm Standard, Explained
Everything you need to know about the Bangladesh e-passport photo standard, the on-site biometric capture rule at DIP, and how to prepare a perfectly compliant reference image.
This photo must be taken by an accredited service
For this document, Bangladesh does not accept a self-prepared photo. By law it must be captured on site by an authorised service and submitted electronically, so we cannot produce a submittable file for it. The official specification is shown below so you know exactly what to expect at your appointment.
This photo is captured on site — but we can make your Bangladesh photos online:
A document photo is a headache of its own
A Bangladesh Passport photo has strict requirements, and a mistake costs time and money. We’ll show you how to pass on the first try.
It gets rejected
Wrong size, background or cropping — and the system returns the application.
Expensive and slow
A trip to a photo studio means a queue, time and €7–12 for a reshoot.
Confusing requirements
Exact size, head height, light background, facial expression — easy to get wrong.
Redo it all over
Rejected — take another photo, pay and submit again. Round and round.
«Below are the exact requirements from the official source, so you arrive at your appointment prepared.»
Ordinary photo → ready for submission
We remove the background and clutter, set the framing and lighting — keeping your face without «beautifying».
Your face stays yours — we do not change features, only the background, lighting and framing.
Your Passport photo: what matters
The Bangladesh passport photo follows a strict 45x55 mm standard set by the Department of Immigration and Passports (DIP), the authority that issues the country's ICAO-compliant e-passport. The goal is a clean, full-colour headshot on a pure white background that meets international biometric requirements, so your application is processed without delays.
There is one essential rule that makes Bangladesh different from most countries. For the e-passport, an adult applicant's biometric photo is captured live on-site during enrolment at a DIP office or Bangladesh mission abroad, together with fingerprints, iris scan and digital signature. This means a self-made photo is generally not submitted as the official adult portrait. Missions and offices still ask applicants to bring a recent, white-background, lab-printed colour photo for the paper file, and that printed copy must match the same biometric standard, so knowing the exact specification still matters.
- Size: 45x55 mm (1063x1299 px at print resolution)
- Background: plain pure white (#FFFFFF), evenly lit, no shadows
- Face size: head fills roughly 70-80% of the frame height
- Expression: neutral, eyes open, mouth closed
- Glasses: not allowed
- Headwear: none, except plain religious head covering that does not hide facial features
- Recency: taken within the last 6 months and matching your current appearance
- Common reasons photos are rejected in Bangladesh:
- A grey, cream or textured background instead of pure ICAO white, often caused by poor home lighting
- Wearing glasses or a head covering that casts shadows or obscures the eyes, forehead or chin
- Smiling, tilted head or uneven studio lighting that does not match the live biometric capture
- Low-resolution or heavily edited prints that fail to match the on-site digital photo
Our tool automatically crops and formats your own picture to the exact 45x55 mm DIP standard with a clean white background, giving you a precise reference image. Please note honestly: because adult e-passport photos must be captured digitally on-site at DIP or a Bangladesh mission, a downloaded photo is generally not accepted as the official submission. Use the compliant image to see exactly how your portrait should look, to check your appearance before the appointment, or for the printed copy where a mission requests one.
