Argentina Passport Photo: Get the Exact 4x4 cm RENAPER Standard
Learn exactly how a compliant Argentine passport photo must look under the RENAPER 4x4 cm standard, and prepare the perfect reference image before your appointment.
This photo must be taken by an accredited service
For this document, Argentina does not accept a self-prepared photo. By law it must be captured on site by an authorised service and submitted electronically, so we cannot produce a submittable file for it. The official specification is shown below so you know exactly what to expect at your appointment.
This photo is captured on site — but we can make your Argentina photos online:
A document photo is a headache of its own
A Argentina Passport photo has strict requirements, and a mistake costs time and money. We’ll show you how to pass on the first try.
It gets rejected
Wrong size, background or cropping — and the system returns the application.
Expensive and slow
A trip to a photo studio means a queue, time and €7–12 for a reshoot.
Confusing requirements
Exact size, head height, light background, facial expression — easy to get wrong.
Redo it all over
Rejected — take another photo, pay and submit again. Round and round.
«Below are the exact requirements from the official source, so you arrive at your appointment prepared.»
Ordinary photo → ready for submission
We remove the background and clutter, set the framing and lighting — keeping your face without «beautifying».
Your face stays yours — we do not change features, only the background, lighting and framing.
Your Passport photo: what matters
An Argentine passport (pasaporte) photo must follow the unified biometric standard set by RENAPER (Registro Nacional de las Personas), the authority that issues both the DNI and the passport. The specification is a square 4x4 cm (40x40 mm, 945x945 px) image on a plain white background, with a neutral, biometric-ready face. Getting these details right is the difference between a smooth appointment and a rejected capture.
The most important peculiarity in Argentina: for the domestic passport issued inside the country, the photo is captured live on-site during the toma de datos biometricos at a RENAPER center or authorized Registro Civil. Staff photograph you, scan your fingerprints and signature digitally, so you do not submit a self-made photo for an in-country application. Self-supplied photos generally apply only to consular renewals abroad, where Argentine consulates may request two printed 4x4 cm photographs that match this same standard.
The official RENAPER requirements are:
- Size: 4x4 cm (40x40 mm), equivalent to 945x945 px square format
- Background: plain, uniform white (#FFFFFF), no shadows or texture
- Face size: head fills roughly 65-80% (about 70%) of the frame height
- Expression: neutral, eyes open, mouth closed, looking straight at the camera
- Glasses: not allowed
- Headwear: none, except for documented religious reasons
- Recency: the image must be recent (taken within the last 6 months) and clearly resemble you
Common reasons photos are rejected in Argentina:
- Wearing glasses or tinted lenses - any eyewear, even clear frames, is no longer accepted
- Off-white or shadowed background - cream, grey or a wall casting shadow fails the plain-white rule
- Smiling or open mouth - the biometric system requires a strictly neutral expression
- Wrong proportions - the head too small or too large breaks the ~70% frame requirement, common with consular print submissions
Because in-country Argentine passports are captured digitally on-site, a downloaded or home-made photo is not submitted for the domestic process - we make no promise of acceptance for that route. What our tool genuinely offers is a perfectly standard-compliant reference image: upload your own picture and it is automatically cropped to the exact 4x4 cm RENAPER framing, white background and head proportion. Use it to see precisely how a compliant photo must look, to prepare for your toma de datos appointment, or to produce the printed 4x4 cm photos a consulate abroad may request. Honest preparation is the surest way to avoid a wasted visit.
