Your Passport photo: what matters
A Turkish passport photo must match the official standard set by Turkey's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the General Directorate of Civil Registration and Nationality (Nüfus / NVI), the authority that issues biometric passports. Get the dimensions, background and framing exactly right and your photo is accepted on the first submission — no second trip to the office.
The most important thing to know about Turkey is the size. The national standard is 50x60 mm — not the 35x45 mm used by most of Europe and many international guides. If you bring a 35x45 mm picture, it will be refused outright. The photo must also show a plain pure white background (#FFFFFF), a neutral expression with closed lips, both eyes open and looking straight at the camera, and it must have been taken within the last 6 months so it reflects your current appearance.

- Glasses, hats or earrings: all three are explicitly forbidden by the MFA standard, even thin frames or small studs.
- Off-white or tinted background: cream, grey or shadowed walls fail; only pure white is accepted.
- Non-neutral face: a smile, open mouth, tilted head or eyes looking away from the lens.
