A document photo is a headache of its own

A Mozambique Passport photo has strict requirements, and a mistake costs time and money. We’ll show you how to pass on the first try.

      It gets rejected

Wrong size, background or cropping — and the system returns the application.

      Expensive and slow

A trip to a photo studio means a queue, time and €7–12 for a reshoot.

      Confusing requirements

Exact size, head height, light background, facial expression — easy to get wrong.

      Redo it all over

Rejected — take another photo, pay and submit again. Round and round.

      In detail

      Your Passport photo: what matters

A Mozambique passport photo must meet the exact requirements set by DICA (Direcção de Identificação Civil e Arquivo), the authority responsible for identity documents in Mozambique. Getting it right on the first submission means knowing the precise measurements and rules — and this page covers them in full, so your application is not delayed.

Mozambique follows the international 35x45 mm standard, which is common across many countries, but the local rules add precise head-measurement tolerances that applicants often overlook. Your head, measured from chin to crown, must fall between 32 mm and 36 mm within the frame, and the top of the head must sit no closer than 3 mm from the upper edge. These measurements translate to the face occupying between 71% and 80% of the total frame height. Submit a photo where the head is slightly too large, slightly too small, or positioned too high, and DICA will reject it — even if everything else is perfect.

      • Size: 35 x 45 mm (digital: 827 x 1063 px at 600 dpi)
      • Background: plain white (#FFFFFF) — no shadows, no gradients, no texture
      • Head height: chin to crown 32–36 mm; minimum 3 mm clearance above the head
      • Face coverage: face fills 71–80% of the frame height
      • Expression: neutral, mouth closed, eyes open and clearly visible
      • Glasses: permitted only if eyes are fully visible, with no glare and no tinted lenses
      • Headwear: allowed for religious reasons only; ears must remain visible where possible
      • Recency: photo must have been taken within the last 6 months

Common reasons passport photos are rejected in Mozambique:

      • Head-measurement errors: chin-to-crown height outside the 32–36 mm range is the most frequent cause of rejection — even a few millimetres matter
      • Off-white or grey backgrounds: only pure white (#FFFFFF) is accepted; beige, cream, or light grey are routinely refused
      • Glare on glasses: even faint lens reflections obscure the eyes and trigger rejection; if in doubt, remove glasses for the photo
      • Head position: tilted, rotated, or positioned too high in the frame — the 3 mm top-edge clearance rule catches many applicants by surprise

To get a photo that meets every one of these requirements without a trip to a photo studio, upload a clear, well-lit photo of yourself. The photo is automatically cropped and sized to the exact DICA standard — 35x45 mm, correct head placement, pure white background — and you receive a free watermarked preview before paying anything. If the finished photo is somehow rejected by DICA, we will redo it at no charge or refund you in full. You pay only when you are satisfied the photo is correct.

      How we get it right

How we make your Passport photo meet the official standard — Mozambique, 35 × 45 mm

Every photo is prepared against the official requirements for your document — not a generic template. Here is what that means in practice:

      • 1We crop and size your photo to the exact millimetre and pixel dimensions the authority requires.
      • 2We check the background, head position, gaze and lighting, and flag glasses or head coverings that are not allowed.
      • 3We match the rules to the specific document and country, citing the official source of those requirements.
      • 4If anything does not meet the standard, you get a free re-do or your money back.

      No more doubts

A digital photo is normal, and it gets accepted — Mozambique, 35 × 45 mm

You do not need a trip to a studio. Authorities accept any Passport photo that meets the official requirements — what matters is the standard, not where the photo was made. We match that standard exactly.

      The standard is what counts

Officials check your photo against the rules — size, background, head position and lighting — not where you took it.

      Part of official processes

Many passport, visa and ID services let you upload a digital photo or submit a print — both are fine when they meet the spec.

      Same result as a studio

We prepare your file to the exact official measurements, so it is accepted just like a professional studio photo.

      And you are covered

If a photo is ever rejected for not meeting the requirements, we redo it for free or refund you.
