A document photo is a headache of its own

A Mozambique Residence card photo has strict requirements, and a mistake costs time and money. We’ll show you how to pass on the first try.

      It gets rejected

Wrong size, background or cropping — and the system returns the application.

      Expensive and slow

A trip to a photo studio means a queue, time and €7–12 for a reshoot.

      Confusing requirements

Exact size, head height, light background, facial expression — easy to get wrong.

      Redo it all over

Rejected — take another photo, pay and submit again. Round and round.

«PhotoID24 does it all for you: upload an ordinary photo — get a ready file exactly matching the official requirements.»

      In detail

Your Residence card photo: what matters

A compliant photo is one of the first things DICA (Direção de Identificação Civil e Arquivo) checks when processing your Documento de Identificação e Residência para Estrangeiro (DIRE). Submit a photo that meets the exact standard and your application moves forward without delay; submit one that does not and it comes straight back. Our service automatically crops, resizes and calibrates your photo to the precise dimensions DICA requires — so the only thing you need to do is take a decent selfie.

The DIRE is Mozambique's official residence permit for foreign nationals, administered by DICA under the Ministry of Interior. Unlike some countries that supply their own biometric images at the office, Mozambique applicants are expected to arrive with passport-type photos already prepared. In practice, DICA accepts the international standard of 35×45 mm on a plain white background — the same format used for Mozambican passports. There is no laminated, tinted or coloured backdrop permitted; pure white (#FFFFFF) is the only correct choice, and photos with grey, off-white or studio-gradient backgrounds are routinely turned away at the counter.

      • Print size: 35 × 45 mm (digital equivalent: 827 × 1063 px at 600 dpi)
      • Background: solid white (#FFFFFF) — no shadows, gradients or patterns
      • Face coverage: face height must fill 71–80% of the total frame height
      • Expression: neutral, mouth closed, both eyes open and clearly visible
      • Glasses: permitted only if eyes are fully visible with no glare, reflection or tinted lenses
      • Head coverings: not permitted except for documented religious observance; the full face must remain unobscured
      • Recency: taken within the last 6 months, accurately reflecting your current appearance
      • Photo quality: sharp focus, even lighting, no pixelation or compression artefacts

Common reasons photos are rejected at DICA offices in Mozambique:

      • Non-white background — off-white, light grey or any studio colour other than pure white is the single most frequent rejection cause
      • Face too small in the frame — a common result of using a full-body or waist-up selfie without cropping; the face must occupy 71–80% of the frame height
      • Glasses with glare or tint — reflections from studio lighting are enough to trigger a rejection even when the frames themselves are acceptable
      • Photo older than 6 months or appearance has changed — officers compare the photo to the applicant in person; significant changes in hair, weight or facial hair can cause a query

To get your DIRE photo ready, simply upload any clear, front-facing photo. The service automatically applies the exact 35×45 mm crop, corrects the background to pure white and checks that your face proportion falls within the required range. Before you pay anything, you receive a free watermarked preview so you can confirm the result. If you are satisfied, download the full-resolution file ready to print. And if DICA rejects your photo for any technical reason, we redo it at no extra cost — or refund you in full. You pay only for a photo that meets the standard.

      How we get it right

How we make your Residence card photo meet the official standard — Mozambique, 35 × 45 mm

Every photo is prepared against the official requirements for your document — not a generic template. Here is what that means in practice:

      • 1We crop and size your photo to the exact millimetre and pixel dimensions the authority requires.
      • 2We check the background, head position, gaze and lighting, and flag glasses or head coverings that are not allowed.
      • 3We match the rules to the specific document and country, against the exact format requirements.
      • 4If anything does not meet the standard, you get a free re-do or your money back.

      No more doubts

A digital photo is normal, and it gets accepted — Mozambique, 35 × 45 mm

You do not need a trip to a studio. Authorities accept any Residence card photo that meets the official requirements — what matters is the standard, not where the photo was made. We match that standard exactly.

      The standard is what counts

Officials check your photo against the rules — size, background, head position and lighting — not where you took it.

      Part of official processes

Many passport, visa and ID services let you upload a digital photo or submit a print — both are fine when they meet the spec.

      Same result as a studio

We prepare your file to the exact official measurements, so it is accepted just like a professional studio photo.

      And you are covered

If a photo is ever rejected for not meeting the requirements, we redo it for free or refund you.

Common questions about Mozambique Residence card photos

What size photo is required for the Mozambique DIRE residence permit?
DICA requires a standard passport-type photo measuring 35 × 45 mm (approximately 827 × 1063 px at 600 dpi). This is the same format used for Mozambican passport photos.
What background colour is accepted for a DIRE photo in Mozambique?
Only a solid white background (#FFFFFF) is accepted. Off-white, light grey and studio-gradient backgrounds are regularly rejected at DICA counters. Our service automatically corrects your background to the required pure white.
Can I wear glasses in my Mozambique DIRE photo?
Yes, glasses are permitted, but only if both eyes are fully visible, there is no glare or reflection on the lenses, and the lenses are not tinted. If there is any doubt, it is safer to remove them — DICA officers apply this rule strictly.
How recent does my DIRE application photo need to be?
Your photo must have been taken within the last 6 months and must accurately reflect your current appearance. Photos that look noticeably different from the applicant in person can cause delays or an outright rejection.
Do I pay before seeing whether my photo meets the DIRE standard?
No. You receive a free watermarked preview before any payment. You only pay to download the final print-ready file once you are satisfied with the result.
What happens if DICA rejects my photo after I have already paid?
We offer a full acceptance guarantee: if your DIRE photo is rejected for any technical reason covered by the official specification, we will redo the photo free of charge or issue a complete refund — whichever you prefer.
