A Canadian Permanent Resident (PR) Card photo must follow the photo standard set by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Get the dimensions, head height and background exactly right and your application moves forward without a rejection notice or a second trip to a photo studio.
The detail most applicants miss is the size. Canada does not use the 35x45 mm format common in Europe and the UK. The PR Card requires a larger 50 x 70 mm (2 x 2-3/4 in) print, and IRCC measures the head precisely: the distance from chin to crown must be 31-36 mm, which places the face at roughly 44-51% of the frame height. For paper applications you also submit two identical photos, and the studio or photographer's details must be written on the back of one of them.
