This photo must be taken by an accredited service

For this document, Andorra does not accept a self-prepared photo. By law it must be captured on site by an authorised service and submitted electronically, so we cannot produce a submittable file for it. A document photo is a headache of its own

A Andorra Passport photo has strict requirements, and a mistake costs time and money. We’ll show you how to pass on the first try.

It gets rejected

Wrong size, background or cropping — and the system returns the application.

Expensive and slow

A trip to a photo studio means a queue, time and €7–12 for a reshoot.

Confusing requirements

Exact size, head height, light background, facial expression — easy to get wrong.

Redo it all over

Rejected — take another photo, pay and submit again. Round and round.

In detail

Your Passport photo: what matters

Getting a compliant Andorra passport photo means meeting the European 35x45 mm portrait standard set by the Govern d'Andorra under the Reglament of 18/01/2023. The specification is strict and biometric: a plain white background, a neutral expression, and a head that occupies between 70% and 80% of the frame height, so the facial features are measured precisely for the document chip.

Andorra has one important peculiarity that surprises most applicants. For anyone aged 12 and over, the passport photo is no longer something you bring with you. Under the 2023 regulation, your image is captured live on-site at a dedicated photo booth (cabina fotografica) inside the Tramits office, at the same moment your fingerprints and signature are recorded. A self-made or downloaded photo is simply not accepted for these applicants. The single exception is children under 6, who must instead supply a printed 35x45 mm photo on a white background, since young children are not captured in the booth.

The exact requirements for an Andorran passport photo are:

  • Size: 35x45 mm (413x531 px at print resolution)
  • Background: plain, uniform white (#FFFFFF)
  • Face size: head fills 70-80% of the frame height
  • Expression: neutral, mouth closed, eyes open and looking at the camera
  • Glasses: permitted only if the eyes are fully visible, with no glare and no tinted lenses
  • Headwear: not allowed, except for genuine religious reasons with the full face visible
  • Recency: must reflect your current appearance, taken within the last 6 months

Common reasons photos are rejected in Andorra:

  • Submitting a self-supplied photo for an applicant aged 12+, who must use the on-site cabina fotografica
  • A background that is off-white, grey or shadowed instead of pure white
  • Glare or reflections on glasses, or tinted lenses hiding the eyes
  • A child under 6's photo cropped wrong so the head falls outside the 70-80% range

Our tool automatically crops and formats your picture to the exact 35x45 mm Andorran standard, with a correct white background and head proportions. Be aware, though, that for the Andorran passport the Govern requires the official image to be captured digitally on-site for applicants 12 and over, so a photo you prepare yourself is generally not accepted at submission. Use our result as a precise reference image to see exactly how a compliant portrait must look, to prepare for your appointment, or for the under-6 printed photo and other personal uses.

Common questions about Andorra Passport photos

What size is an Andorra passport photo?
The Andorran passport photo follows the European format of 35x45 mm (about 413x531 px), with the head filling 70-80% of the frame height on a plain white background.
Can I supply my own photo for an Andorra passport?
For applicants aged 12 and over, no. Under the 2023 Govern d'Andorra regulation the photo is captured live at a booth (cabina fotografica) in the Tramits office. Only children under 6 supply a printed 35x45 mm photo.
Why is my passport photo taken at the office in Andorra?
Since the Reglament of 18/01/2023, the image is recorded on-site together with your fingerprints and signature to ensure a secure, biometric link between you and the document for anyone 12 or older.
What background colour is required?
A plain, uniform white background (#FFFFFF). Grey, cream or shadowed backgrounds are a common cause of rejection.
Can I wear glasses in my Andorra passport photo?
Glasses are allowed only if your eyes are fully visible with no glare or reflections, and the lenses must not be tinted. Frames should not cover the eyes.
Can I wear a hat or head covering?
Headwear is not permitted except for genuine religious reasons, and even then your full face from the bottom of the chin to the top of the forehead must remain clearly visible.
