- Face coverage: 69–80% of the total frame height
- Expression: Neutral, mouth closed, both eyes fully open and clearly visible
- Glasses: Not permitted under any circumstances
- Headwear: Allowed only for verified religious or medical reasons; the full face must remain completely unobstructed
- Currency: The photo must accurately reflect your current appearance
Common reasons photos are rejected at Nigerian licensing centres:
- Background that is off-white, grey, or contains shadows — only pure white (#FFFFFF) meets the FRSC standard
- Glasses worn in the image, including clear prescription or anti-glare lenses
- Incorrect face-to-frame ratio — face occupying less than 69% or more than 80% of frame height
- Uneven or harsh lighting that casts shadows across the face or onto the background
