A document photo is a headache of its own

A Taiwan Driving licence photo has strict requirements, and a mistake costs time and money. We’ll show you how to pass on the first try.

      It gets rejected

Wrong size, background or cropping — and the system returns the application.

      Expensive and slow

A trip to a photo studio means a queue, time and €7–12 for a reshoot.

      Confusing requirements

Exact size, head height, light background, facial expression — easy to get wrong.

      Redo it all over

Rejected — take another photo, pay and submit again. Round and round.

«PhotoID24 does it all for you: upload an ordinary photo — get a ready file exactly matching the official requirements.»

      In detail

Your Driving licence photo: what matters

A Taiwan driving licence photo must meet the precise standard set by the Directorate General of Highways (MOTC). The photo is submitted directly with your application, and a non-compliant image means delays or an outright rejection at the counter. Having the correct file ready before you arrive saves a second trip and gets your licence issued on the first submission.

One detail catches many applicants off guard: Taiwan's driving licence uses the 1-inch (一吋) format — approximately 28×35 mm — not the 2-inch (二吋) format required for passports or national ID cards. These two formats are easy to confuse because both are printed as "passport-style" half-length portraits, yet the dimensions are quite different. Your application requires two identical, recent, half-length front-facing photos on a plain white background. Photos taken more than six months ago, or photos resized from a larger format without meeting the face-coverage ratio, are routinely rejected.

      • Size: 28×35 mm (digital equivalent: 331×413 px at standard print resolution)
      • Background: plain white (#FFFFFF) — no patterns, shadows, or gradients
      • Face coverage: face height must fill 68–80% of the total frame height
      • Expression: neutral, mouth closed, eyes fully open and looking directly at the camera
      • Glasses: permitted only if the eyes are completely visible with no glare and no tinted lenses
      • Headwear: not permitted except for documented religious reasons
      • Recency: photos must have been taken within the last six months
      • Pose: half-length, front-facing, head straight — no tilting or turning
      • Wrong photo size — using 2-inch instead of 1-inch: the most common error; a standard passport photo (40×50 mm or 35×45 mm) will be rejected outright because it does not match the driving licence specification
      • Non-white background: off-white, cream, or light grey backgrounds do not pass — the standard requires pure white only
      • Face too small or too large in the frame: cropping that leaves the face below 68% or above 80% of the frame height fails the face-coverage check
      • Glasses with glare or tinted lenses: even lightly tinted everyday glasses are not accepted; the eyes must be entirely unobstructed

Upload your own photo and it is automatically cropped and sized to the exact 28×35 mm (331×413 px) official standard — correct background, correct face coverage, ready to print and submit. Before you pay anything, you receive a free watermarked preview so you can confirm the result looks right. If the photo is ever rejected by the issuing office, it will be redone free of charge or you receive a full refund. You pay only for the final, compliant file.

      How we get it right

How we make your Driving licence photo meet the official standard — Taiwan, 28 × 35 mm

Every photo is prepared against the official requirements for your document — not a generic template. Here is what that means in practice:

      • 1We crop and size your photo to the exact millimetre and pixel dimensions the authority requires.
      • 2We check the background, head position, gaze and lighting, and flag glasses or head coverings that are not allowed.
      • 3We match the rules to the specific document and country, citing the official source of those requirements.
      • 4If anything does not meet the standard, you get a free re-do or your money back.

      No more doubts

A digital photo is normal, and it gets accepted — Taiwan, 28 × 35 mm

You do not need a trip to a studio. Authorities accept any Driving licence photo that meets the official requirements — what matters is the standard, not where the photo was made. We match that standard exactly.

      The standard is what counts

Officials check your photo against the rules — size, background, head position and lighting — not where you took it.

      Part of official processes

Many passport, visa and ID services let you upload a digital photo or submit a print — both are fine when they meet the spec.

      Same result as a studio

We prepare your file to the exact official measurements, so it is accepted just like a professional studio photo.

      And you are covered

If a photo is ever rejected for not meeting the requirements, we redo it for free or refund you.

Common questions about Taiwan Driving licence photos

What size photo is required for a Taiwan driving licence?
The driving licence requires the 1-inch (一吋) format: 28×35 mm, or 331×413 px at print resolution. This is smaller than the 2-inch passport photo and the two are not interchangeable.
Can I use a regular passport photo for my Taiwan driving licence application?
No. A standard passport photo (typically 35×45 mm or 40×50 mm) is the wrong size. The driving licence specifically requires the smaller 1-inch (28×35 mm) format. Using a passport photo will result in rejection.
      What background colour is required?
The background must be plain white (#FFFFFF). Off-white, cream, and light grey backgrounds do not meet the standard set by the Directorate General of Highways.
Are glasses allowed in a Taiwan driving licence photo?
Glasses are permitted only if the eyes are fully visible, there is no glare on the lenses, and the lenses are not tinted. If there is any doubt, it is safer to remove glasses for the photo.
How many photos do I need to submit?
You must submit two identical recent half-length front-facing photos. Both must be from the same session and meet all requirements for size, background, and face coverage.
When do I pay, and what if my photo is rejected?
You receive a free watermarked preview before any payment so you can check the result first. You pay only for the final file. If the photo is rejected by the issuing office, it will be redone at no cost or you will receive a full refund.
