A document photo is a headache of its own

A Serbia Driving licence photo has strict requirements, and a mistake costs time and money. We’ll show you how to pass on the first try.

      It gets rejected

Wrong size, background or cropping — and the system returns the application.

      Expensive and slow

A trip to a photo studio means a queue, time and €7–12 for a reshoot.

      Confusing requirements

Exact size, head height, light background, facial expression — easy to get wrong.

      Redo it all over

Rejected — take another photo, pay and submit again. Round and round.

«PhotoID24 does it all for you: upload an ordinary photo — get a ready file exactly matching the official requirements.»

      In detail

Your Driving licence photo: what matters

When you apply for a driving licence in Serbia, the Ministarstvo unutrašnjih poslova (MUP) requires you to bring one physical 35×45 mm colour photograph that meets the ICAO biometric standard. Getting that photo right on the first visit saves you an extra trip to the police station and avoids delays to your licence. Our service automatically prepares your photo to the precise MUP specification — you see a free watermarked preview before paying anything.

One detail that catches many applicants off guard: unlike the Serbian national ID card (lična karta), where photo capture happens live at the MUP counter, the driving licence application requires you to supply a printed 35×45 mm photograph yourself. You hand it in with your application documents at the police administration (policijska uprava). This means the print quality, dimensions, and background colour are entirely your responsibility before you walk through the door. A single non-compliant photo means your application is turned away at the counter.

      • Size: 35×45 mm (827×1063 px at print resolution)
      • Background: plain white or very light neutral — no patterns, shadows, or gradients
      • Face coverage: face height must fill 70–80% of the total frame height
      • Expression: neutral, mouth closed, both eyes open and clearly visible
      • Glasses: permitted only if lenses are clear (no tint, no photochromic), frames do not obscure the eyes, and there is no glare on the lenses
      • Head covering: not permitted except for documented religious reasons; the full face from chin to hairline must remain unobstructed
      • Recency: photograph must represent your current appearance — taken within the last six months
      • Colour: full colour print, not black-and-white or sepia

Common reasons driving licence photos are rejected in Serbia:

      • Wrong dimensions or crop: home-printed photos that are slightly too small, or portrait-oriented crops where the face occupies less than 70% of the height, are turned away immediately at the counter
      • Off-white or coloured background: cream, light grey, or any background that is not a clean white fails the ICAO check — MUP officers compare against a reference card
      • Shadows on the face or background: a common issue with photos taken at home against a wall; any visible shadow is grounds for rejection
      • Tinted or thick-framed glasses: even lightly tinted lenses (including transition lenses indoors) are not accepted because they obscure the iris colour required for biometric matching

To get your photo ready: upload any recent, well-lit portrait — your photo is automatically cropped and sized to the exact 35×45 mm MUP standard, the background is corrected to clean white, and you receive a free watermarked preview to check before you pay. If you print the file and the MUP counter rejects it for any technical reason, we will redo the photo at no charge or issue a full refund. You only pay for a file you are confident will be accepted.

      How we get it right

How we make your Driving licence photo meet the official standard — Serbia, 35 × 45 mm

Every photo is prepared against the official requirements for your document — not a generic template. Here is what that means in practice:

      • 1We crop and size your photo to the exact millimetre and pixel dimensions the authority requires.
      • 2We check the background, head position, gaze and lighting, and flag glasses or head coverings that are not allowed.
      • 3We match the rules to the specific document and country, citing the official source of those requirements.
      • 4If anything does not meet the standard, you get a free re-do or your money back.

      No more doubts

A digital photo is normal, and it gets accepted — Serbia, 35 × 45 mm

You do not need a trip to a studio. Authorities accept any Driving licence photo that meets the official requirements — what matters is the standard, not where the photo was made. We match that standard exactly.

      The standard is what counts

Officials check your photo against the rules — size, background, head position and lighting — not where you took it.

      Part of official processes

Many passport, visa and ID services let you upload a digital photo or submit a print — both are fine when they meet the spec.

      Same result as a studio

We prepare your file to the exact official measurements, so it is accepted just like a professional studio photo.

      And you are covered

If a photo is ever rejected for not meeting the requirements, we redo it for free or refund you.

Common questions about Serbia Driving licence photos

What size photo does Serbian MUP require for a driving licence?
MUP requires one 35×45 mm colour photograph (equivalent to 827×1063 px at standard print resolution). This is the ICAO biometric format — the same dimensions used internationally for passport and visa photos.
Can I use a white background from a regular photo booth?
Yes, provided the background is a plain, clean white with no visible shadows or texture. Many booth backgrounds photograph as slightly off-white or grey under artificial lighting, which MUP officers can and do reject. Our service corrects the background to a compliant white automatically.
Do I need to bring a printed photo, or can I submit it digitally?
For the Serbian driving licence you must bring a physical printed photograph to the policijska uprava. Unlike the national ID card (lična karta), there is no live digital capture at the MUP counter for this document — the print is part of your application package.
Are glasses allowed in a Serbian driving licence photo?
Glasses are permitted only if the lenses are completely clear (no tint, no photochromic coating), the frames do not cover any part of the eyes, and there is no glare or reflection on the lenses. If you normally wear glasses, it is usually safer to remove them for the photo.
How recent does the photo need to be?
The photograph must reflect your current appearance and should have been taken within the past six months. If your appearance has changed significantly — hair colour, facial hair, weight — use a more recent photo even if you have an older compliant one.
When do I pay, and what if my photo is rejected?
You receive a free watermarked preview of your prepared photo before any payment is required. You pay only when you are satisfied with the result. If you print the file and MUP rejects it for a technical compliance reason, we will prepare a corrected photo free of charge or issue a full refund.
