- Lighting: even, with no harsh shadows on the face or background
Common reasons photos are rejected at the GRA licence office:
- Background is off-white, cream, or contains a shadow cast by the subject — only pure white (#FFFFFF) is acceptable
- Face occupies less than 60 % of the frame height, leaving excessive empty space above the head or below the chin
- Sunglasses or tinted lenses are worn, obscuring the eyes — even lightly tinted fashion frames are not accepted
- Head is tilted or turned, rather than facing squarely forward with a level horizontal gaze
