Your Work permit photo: what matters
A Denmark work permit photo must meet the 35x45 mm ICAO facial standard used across the Danish residence-permit system, administered by SIRI (the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration). In Denmark a work permit is not a standalone document: it is granted as a combined residence-and-work permit and embodied in the same biometric residence card you carry day to day. The crucial Danish peculiarity: your biometrics are captured live. After SIRI approves your application, you book an appointment at a Borgerservice citizen-service centre, a SIRI branch, or a Danish embassy/consulate abroad, where staff photograph you digitally and record your fingerprints and signature for the chip card. Because the facial image is taken on the spot under controlled conditions, a downloaded or self-made photo is generally not submitted for the permit itself. - Common reasons photos are rejected in Denmark:
- Using a self-supplied or home-printed photo when SIRI requires a live, on-site digital capture for the residence card
- A background that is too dark, patterned, or off-colour instead of the neutral light grey tone
- Reflection or tint on glasses obscuring the eyes, or thick frames covering the eye area
- Smiling, an open mouth, or a tilted head that breaks the neutral, front-facing ICAO pose
