This trips up many applicants because a phone snapshot taken against an off-white wall, with shadows or a slightly cream tone, is read by the system as a non-plain background. When a printed copy is requested at the labour office, Cambodia follows the local 4x6 cm convention rather than the Western 35x45 mm format, so the same source image should work for both the upload and any printout.

- Size: 40x60 mm (472x709 px), matching the 4x6 cm Cambodian convention
- Background: pure white, #FFFFFF, plain and shadow-free
- Face height: the head fills 55-70% of the frame height
- Expression: neutral, mouth closed, eyes open and looking at the camera
- Glasses: allowed only if the eyes are fully visible with no glare or tint
- Headwear: none, except religious head covering that does not hide the face
- Recency: taken within the last 6 months
