A document photo is a headache of its own

A Croatia Work permit photo has strict requirements, and a mistake costs time and money. We’ll show you how to pass on the first try.

      It gets rejected

Wrong size, background or cropping — and the system returns the application.

      Expensive and slow

A trip to a photo studio means a queue, time and €7–12 for a reshoot.

      Confusing requirements

Exact size, head height, light background, facial expression — easy to get wrong.

      Redo it all over

Rejected — take another photo, pay and submit again. Round and round.

«PhotoID24 does it all for you: upload an ordinary photo — get a ready file exactly matching the official requirements.»

      In detail

Your Work permit photo: what matters

A Croatia work permit photo must match the EU uniform biometric standard used by the Ministry of the Interior (Ministarstvo unutarnjih poslova, MUP) when issuing your residence-and-work card. The goal is simple: a photo that is accepted on first submission, cropped to the exact official specification with no guesswork. Get the dimensions, background, and face size right and your application moves forward without a return trip to the counter.

Here is the key thing applicants miss. Since 2021, Croatia merged the separate work permit and residence permit into a single document — the dozvola za boravak i rad (residence-and-work permit), issued as a biometric ID-1 card. That means there is no longer a distinct "work visa photo" standard: your photo must meet exactly the same EU 35x45 mm biometric format as the residence card. The same neutral-background, full-face rules apply, and the photo is captured into the card chip, so MUP enforces the proportions strictly.

      The exact requirements:

      • Size: 35x45 mm (827x1063 px at print resolution)
      • Background: plain light grey, #F5F5F5, evenly lit with no shadows
      • Face height: the head must fill 70–80% of the frame
      • Expression: neutral, mouth closed, eyes open and looking straight ahead
      • Glasses: not allowed — remove them entirely
      • Headwear: none, except plain religious head coverings that do not obscure the face
      • Recency: taken within the last 6 months and a true likeness of you

Common reasons photos are rejected in Croatia:

      • Using an old passport-style photo with a white or blue background instead of the required #F5F5F5 light grey
      • Wearing glasses — even thin or rimless frames are now refused for the biometric card
      • Head too small or too large in the frame, breaking the 70–80% face-height rule
      • Shadows on the wall behind the head or uneven lighting across the face

You do not need a studio. Upload a normal, well-lit photo and it is automatically cropped and adjusted to the exact MUP 35x45 mm standard — correct head size, neutral grey background, and proper margins. You see a free watermarked preview before paying anything. And it is backed by an acceptance guarantee: if your photo is rejected, we redo it free or refund you. You pay only for the final file, and only if it fits.

      How we get it right

How we make your Work permit photo meet the official standard — Croatia, 35 × 45 mm

Every photo is prepared against the official requirements for your document — not a generic template. Here is what that means in practice:

      • 1We crop and size your photo to the exact millimetre and pixel dimensions the authority requires.
      • 2We check the background, head position, gaze and lighting, and flag glasses or head coverings that are not allowed.
      • 3We match the rules to the specific document and country, citing the official source of those requirements.
      • 4If anything does not meet the standard, you get a free re-do or your money back.

      No more doubts

A digital photo is normal, and it gets accepted — Croatia, 35 × 45 mm

You do not need a trip to a studio. Authorities accept any Work permit photo that meets the official requirements — what matters is the standard, not where the photo was made. We match that standard exactly.

      The standard is what counts

Officials check your photo against the rules — size, background, head position and lighting — not where you took it.

      Part of official processes

Many passport, visa and ID services let you upload a digital photo or submit a print — both are fine when they meet the spec.

      Same result as a studio

We prepare your file to the exact official measurements, so it is accepted just like a professional studio photo.

      And you are covered

If a photo is ever rejected for not meeting the requirements, we redo it for free or refund you.

Common questions about Croatia Work permit photos

What size must a Croatia work permit photo be?
Exactly 35x45 mm (827x1063 px at print resolution), matching the EU uniform biometric format that MUP uses for the residence-and-work card.
Is the work permit photo different from the residence permit photo?
No. Since 2021 Croatia issues a single residence-and-work permit (dozvola za boravak i rad), so the photo uses the same 35x45 mm biometric standard as the residence card.
      What background colour is required?
A plain, evenly lit light grey background, #F5F5F5. White or blue backgrounds from old passport photos are a common cause of rejection.
Can I wear glasses in the photo?
No. Glasses are not allowed on the biometric card, including thin or rimless frames. Remove them entirely before taking the photo.
Can I wear a head covering?
Only for religious reasons, and it must not cover any part of your face. Otherwise no headwear, hats, or hoods are permitted.
When do I actually pay, and what if it is rejected?
You see a free watermarked preview first and pay only for the final file. If the photo is ever rejected, we redo it free or refund you.
