A document photo is a headache of its own

A Sri Lanka Visa photo has strict requirements, and a mistake costs time and money. We’ll show you how to pass on the first try.

      It gets rejected

Wrong size, background or cropping — and the system returns the application.

      Expensive and slow

A trip to a photo studio means a queue, time and €7–12 for a reshoot.

      Confusing requirements

Exact size, head height, light background, facial expression — easy to get wrong.

      Redo it all over

Rejected — take another photo, pay and submit again. Round and round.

«PhotoID24 does it all for you: upload an ordinary photo — get a ready file exactly matching the official requirements.»

      In detail

      Your Visa photo: what matters

A correctly prepared photo is the first gatekeeper for any Sri Lanka Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) application. The Department of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka requires a colour photograph measuring exactly 35×45 mm on a plain white background. Because the ETA is processed online, even a marginal image can trigger an automatic rejection — getting the specification right from the start removes that risk entirely.

The Sri Lanka ETA is a fully online process: applicants upload a digital JPG themselves, with no consulate visit and no officer at a counter to accept a borderline shot. The uploaded file is reviewed both by automated checks and by immigration officers who compare it directly against the published specification. This is an advantage — you control the image before submission — but it also means there is no tolerance for approximation. One particularly common pitfall: even a faintly cream or off-white background, typical of photography under household lighting, fails the white-background verification. The requirement is pure white (#FFFFFF), and the system checks it literally.

      • Photo dimensions: 35×45 mm (digital equivalent: 827×1063 pixels)
      • Background: plain white (#FFFFFF), uniform, no shadows or patterns
      • Face coverage: the face must occupy 70–80% of the frame height
      • Head position: straight-on, full frontal, both eyes open and clearly visible
      • Expression: neutral, mouth closed
      • Glasses: not permitted in any form, including thin frames or lightly tinted lenses
      • Headwear: permitted for religious reasons only; the full face must remain unobstructed
      • Recency: taken within the last 6 months

Common reasons Sri Lanka ETA photos are rejected:

      • Background that is not pure white — cream, grey, or any tinted shade fails the automated check
      • Glasses of any kind, including frameless or photochromic lenses
      • Shadows falling across the face or behind the head — a frequent result of direct flash photography at home
      • Face proportion outside the 70–80% range — both an overly tight crop and a photo taken from too far away are rejected

Upload a standard portrait photo and it is automatically prepared to the exact ETA standard: cropped to 35×45 mm, background corrected to pure white, and exported at the correct pixel dimensions. You receive a free watermarked preview before any charge is applied — pay only for the final download file. If your Sri Lanka ETA photo is rejected for any reason, we redo it free of charge or issue a full refund. No forms, no disputes.

      How we get it right

How we make your Visa photo meet the official standard — Sri Lanka, 35 × 45 mm

Every photo is prepared against the official requirements for your document — not a generic template. Here is what that means in practice:

      • 1We crop and size your photo to the exact millimetre and pixel dimensions the authority requires.
      • 2We check the background, head position, gaze and lighting, and flag glasses or head coverings that are not allowed.
      • 3We match the rules to the specific document and country, citing the official source of those requirements.
      • 4If anything does not meet the standard, you get a free re-do or your money back.

      No more doubts

A digital photo is normal, and it gets accepted — Sri Lanka, 35 × 45 mm

You do not need a trip to a studio. Authorities accept any Visa photo that meets the official requirements — what matters is the standard, not where the photo was made. We match that standard exactly.

      The standard is what counts

Officials check your photo against the rules — size, background, head position and lighting — not where you took it.

      Part of official processes

Many passport, visa and ID services let you upload a digital photo or submit a print — both are fine when they meet the spec.

      Same result as a studio

We prepare your file to the exact official measurements, so it is accepted just like a professional studio photo.

      And you are covered

If a photo is ever rejected for not meeting the requirements, we redo it for free or refund you.

Common questions about Sri Lanka Visa photos

What size does a Sri Lanka ETA photo need to be?
The official size is 35×45 mm, which corresponds to 827×1063 pixels for digital submission to the ETA portal. Both dimensions must be exact — the system validates proportions automatically.
Are glasses allowed in a Sri Lanka visa photo?
No. The ETA specification explicitly prohibits glasses in any form, including thin metal frames, frameless glasses, and lightly tinted or photochromic lenses. Remove them before taking the photo.
Can I submit my own photo to the Sri Lanka ETA system?
Yes. The ETA application is fully online and you upload your own JPG directly — there is no consulate appointment or printed photo required. This means you can prepare and review your image before submitting it, which is exactly what our tool helps with.
What background colour is required for a Sri Lanka ETA photo?
Plain white (#FFFFFF). Even a slightly cream, ivory, or light grey background — common in home photography — will fail the automated check. The background must be pure, uniform white with no shadows.
      When do I pay?
Only after you have reviewed the free watermarked preview and are satisfied with the result. You are not charged simply to see the prepared image — payment is required only to download the final file.
What happens if my Sri Lanka ETA photo is rejected?
We offer a full acceptance guarantee: if the photo is rejected by the ETA system, we will redo it at no additional cost or issue a complete refund. You do not pay twice.
