A document photo is a headache of its own
A Monaco Visa photo has strict requirements, and a mistake costs time and money. We’ll show you how to pass on the first try.
It gets rejected
Wrong size, background or cropping — and the system returns the application.
Expensive and slow
A trip to a photo studio means a queue, time and €7–12 for a reshoot.
Confusing requirements
Exact size, head height, light background, facial expression — easy to get wrong.
Redo it all over
Rejected — take another photo, pay and submit again. Round and round.

Your Visa photo: what matters
Monaco does not issue its own short-stay visas. As a sovereign principality within the French customs and immigration area, Monaco short-stay visas are processed by France through the official France-Visas portal. That means your photo must meet the standard Schengen photo requirement — the same technical standard enforced across 27 European countries. A correctly prepared photo is the single most consequential administrative detail that determines whether your application advances on the first submission.
Because Monaco's visa is, in practice, a French visa, the authority reviewing your application follows French consular guidelines aligned with the Schengen Borders Code. The photo standard is identical to the one applied for French visas worldwide: 35×45 mm, printed on matte or gloss photo paper, taken within the past six months. Unlike some non-Schengen destinations, digital-only photo submission is not accepted at the consulate stage — physical prints are required. However, self-supplied prints are fully accepted, provided they meet the stated dimensions and quality standards.
- Dimensions: 35×45 mm (digital equivalent: 827×1063 px at 600 dpi)
- Background: plain, light, and neutral — reference value #F0F0F0 (near-white; no patterns, gradients, or shadows)
- Face height: 70–80% of the total frame height
- Expression: neutral and natural, mouth closed, eyes open and clearly visible
- Glasses: not permitted — including clear prescription frames, strictly enforced under current Schengen rules
- Headwear: not permitted, except for documented religious reasons; head must otherwise be uncovered
- Recency: taken within the last 6 months — an older photo is a direct ground for rejection
- Shadow on the background — a shadow cast behind the head is the most frequently cited flaw during Schengen photo reviews at French consulates
- Glasses in the photo — even non-tinted frames are rejected; this rule has been strictly enforced since the 2015 Schengen photo standard update
- Face size out of the required range — too small (typical of selfie framing) or too large (chin or forehead cropped by the edge of the frame)
- Photo older than 6 months — consular staff verify the date of the photo against the submission date; outdated images are returned on the spot
Upload your photo and it is automatically cropped, the background is corrected, and the face is scaled to the precise 35×45 mm Schengen standard required for Monaco visa applications. You receive a free watermarked preview before any payment — check that it meets the standard, then pay only for the final file. Should a consulate ever reject the photo we prepared, we redo it at no charge or issue a full refund.
How we make your Visa photo meet the official standard — Monaco, 35 × 45 mm
Every photo is prepared against the official requirements for your document — not a generic template. Here is what that means in practice:
- 1We crop and size your photo to the exact millimetre and pixel dimensions the authority requires.
- 2We check the background, head position, gaze and lighting, and flag glasses or head coverings that are not allowed.
- 3We match the rules to the specific document and country, citing the official source of those requirements.
- 4If anything does not meet the standard, you get a free re-do or your money back.

A digital photo is normal, and it gets accepted — Monaco, 35 × 45 mm
You do not need a trip to a studio. Authorities accept any Visa photo that meets the official requirements — what matters is the standard, not where the photo was made. We match that standard exactly.
The standard is what counts
Officials check your photo against the rules — size, background, head position and lighting — not where you took it.
Part of official processes
Many passport, visa and ID services let you upload a digital photo or submit a print — both are fine when they meet the spec.
Same result as a studio
We prepare your file to the exact official measurements, so it is accepted just like a professional studio photo.
And you are covered
If a photo is ever rejected for not meeting the requirements, we redo it for free or refund you.
