In November 2025 Kyrgyzstan did something rare for a small Central Asian state: it began printing its own biometric passports at home. The new e-passport, made by the state house Uchkun, packs more than 30 security features across three classification levels — a cryptographic chip, laser-engraved data, holograms, kinegrams and UV printing — and one data-page element is shaped as a traditional Kyrgyz ornament. Its pages parade national icons: the hero Manas, Khan Tengri peak and the Yntymak Ordo residence. Uchkun's presses are now so trusted that the country exports passport production to Namibia and Ghana — a striking reversal for a nation that, three decades ago, had no documents of its own.
