About this photo format
A school ID is often the first document a child gets, and the photo for it is usually needed in the first week of term. There is no need to book a studio: a photo taken at home by a window is enough, and we turn it into a properly framed 35×45 mm file the school will accept.
What schools usually ask for. A school card photo uses the same format as an identity card: 35×45 mm, face square to the camera, even lighting and a plain light background. It is an identification photo rather than a biometric one, so the strict passport rules do not all apply — but the framing and proportions still have to be right, or the office will send it back.
Getting it right the first time. Sit the child facing a window so the light comes from the front. Use a plain wall with no pattern or shadow behind them. Hold the phone at eye level, about a metre away — closer than that distorts the features. Hair should stay clear of the eyes, and glasses must not catch a reflection.
